The Melody Movement Class introduces children to dance and movement using the natural actions of the body such as walking, running, skipping, hopping and galloping. It is designed to help children’s physical development, co-ordination, concentration, creativity and self-expression in a dance format.

The Melody Movement syllabus has been created by Jill Bridger, a registered Royal Academy of Dance teacher with 20 years experience of teaching young children. Jill created her syllabus to give her pre-school children a creative and inspiring programme of dance classes which could meet the needs of all the children. She found that the addition of Melody Bear and her achievement stickers encouraged the children to participate and to continue their dancing as they matured.

Once we feel our Pre-School pupils are ready to be formally assessed, children are given the opportunity to perform for a special visitor from the ATODI (Australian Teachers of Dancing International) on one of our exam days.

The Assessment:
  • provides and opportunity for small children to be introduced to the assessment procedure in a relaxed and familiar environment
  • allows the teacher to take the students for a normal class with a special visitor (the Examiner) as their guest for the class
  • allows the children to be assessed on participation and involvement in the lesson - at this age they are not assessed on dance technique or musicality
  • Provides the children with a medal and a written report with positive comments such as "Delightful use of arms in your fairy runs Sarah. Co-ordination is developing well with excellent skips seen."
  • Gives the parents and teacher an opportunity to build self confidence by congratulating the children on how wonderful they are.
